Theme: Possible dialogue between two fields of knowledge and practice: Bioethics and International Cooperation in Health.

Summary
The first cycle of debates of the Center for Bioethics and Diplomacy Studies in Health , held November 4 at FIOCRUZ Brasilia, promoted the reflection through discussion of the theme “Possible dialogue between two fields of knowledge and practice“. The event, opened to the public, brought together about 70 participants, among them, Master students and doctoral candidates at the University of Brasilia (UnB) and researchers at FIOCRUZ Brasilia.
The cycle of debates was led by the representative of the Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and organizer of the event, José Paranaguá, by the Coordinator of the Center for International Relations in Health (CRIS/Fiocruz), Paulo Buss and by the Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Bioethics/ UNESCO Bioethics  Chair of UnB, Volnei Garrafa. Participants made exposure of topics such as “Bioethics of the intervention: a proposal for the peripheral countries in the context of power and injustice” and “Health Diplomacy: new perspectives and strategies in Global Health”.

José Paranaguá spoke about the importance of the cycle of debates. “It’s an interesting experience since it is an attempt to bring two important areas of health in Brazil. I have a pretty great expectation regarding Bioethics and Health Diplomacy “, commented. The Coordinator of CRIS/Fiocruz, Paulo Buss, did an evaluation of the event. “This is an opportunity to challenge global health and a valuable moment that serves to instigate a series of questions and answers little explored,” he said. The Center has planned, yet for this year, the achievement of another debate in December.
The Center for Bioethics and Diplomacy Studies in Health, consortium signed between Fiocruz and UnB, counts with the institutional support of FIOCRUZ Brasilia and aims to expand the spaces for debate on topics related to health, carry out technical and scientific meetings, in addition to supporting and empowering researchers.
