Tobacco

The Framework Convention for Tobacco Control (FCTC), in force since 2005, was intensely discussed and approved between 1999 and 2003. Unlike the other resolutions presented here, with a recommendatory bias, this has a binding character, that is, mandatory application in the signatory countries.

Among the 10 resolutions published in the period 2005-2016, there is 1 from WHO, 7 concerning meetings of the Conference of the Parties of the WHO Framework Convention for Tobacco Control and 2 from ECOSOC:


All these documents

- Strengthen international concern with negative impacts on public health, as regards social, economic and environmental consequences;
-Recognize the validity of conflicts of interest between the tobacco industry and public health and recommend actions to be taken in an integrated way between UN agencies – UN Task Force.
