The event was sponsored by the Center for Distance Education (CEAD) and the Center for the Study, Research and Extension on Permanent Education for the SUS (NUEPES). The goal of the lecture was to discuss the work of the healthcare professional who specializes in the humanized attendance of the communities.

The event had the presence of NUESPES Coordinator, professor Lis Cardoso Marinho; the Deputy Coordinator of the Open University of Brazil (UAB), Liana Rosa Brito; the President of the State Council of Municipal Secretaries for Health (COSEMS), Socorro Candeira; the representative of the Municipal Health Foundation of Teresina (FMS), Rayla Maria de Carvalho; and the Coordinator of the Center for Bioethics and Diplomacy Studies in Health (Nethis/Fiocruz), José Paranaguá Santana, also International Relations in Health Advisor of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).

According to professor José Paranaguá Santana, responsible for teaching the class, professionalization in family health is of the utmost importance to society. “This proposal to work with family health is a Brazilian idea, despite being promoted in other countries. I say it is a strategy that has the face of our country, because a whole process is developed to adapt the different characteristics of the Brazilian regions. To meet the communities and to promote a humanized attendance”, he highlighted.

The course is offered by the 13 poles related to CEAD and approximately 390 students are already enrolled. According to Professor Lis Marinho, the expectation is that teaching centers can cover a large part of Piaui. “One pole of a municipality not only attends that place, but also other surrounding areas, here, for example, there are people of Parnaguá and there lacks a polo”, she explained.

The lecture was accompanied by students from different courses and institutions. For Claudio Costa, Nursing degree by Federal University of Piauí (UESPI), it is expected that the specialization course helps improving his activities. “I already work for 14 years as a health agent visiting communities in the municipality of União, I intend to take the knowledge acquired to use it in the families I visit. It is a work in which we create a strong bond with whom we attend”, said.
