Last June, Marcelo Medeiros, a researcher at the Institute of Applied Economic Research (Ipea), published in the journal PIAUÍ an article titled “The world is the most unequal place in world”, theme of the next session of VII Cycle of Debates on Bioethics, Diplomacy and Public Health, October 20th 2016. The Table shall be coordinated by Neilton de Oliveira, Program Director of the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Health, at 8:30 am, in the Internal Auditorium at Fiocruz Brasilia

Registration here. The Fiocruz School of Government will issue certificate of participation to the ones attending. Exceptionally there will be no recording of this lecture.

The article – a sample of what can be expected for the next meeting of the Cycle of Debates – reveals, in general terms, the weakening of national States due to power and wealth concentrated in a small group of people in the world. This restricted power turns out to set scientific research, for example. Medeiros says that inequality may come to represent a threat to democracy. The text brings an analysis of the book “Global Inequality: A New Approach for the Age of Globalization”, from the Economist Branko Milanovic, specialized in inequality, a professor at the New York City University.
