On October 24th and 25th, in partnership with the Pan American Health Organization (Paho/WHO), the  Support  to Research and Public Policies on Alcohol, Crack and other Drugs Institutional Programme (PACD) at Fiocruz will promote the International Seminar on Alcohol, Health and Society. The meeting will address the epidemiological, historical and cultural aspects of alcohol consumption, as well as the public policies in Brazil and in Latin America.

Held in the Auditorium of the National School of Public Health (Ensp/Fiocruz), the event also aims to discuss issues related to the marketing strategies used by the alcohol industry and the regulation of consumption, drawing a parallel with the experience of tobacco regulation. Among the main foreign speakers is the professor of the School of Medicine at the University of Connecticut, Thomas Babor and Senior Advisor to alcohol at Paho/WHO Maristela Monteiro. The meeting will also have national experts, with works or studies related to alcohol and other drugs.

The seminar will feature three conferences and four round tables. The discussions will cover topics such as strategies for promotion, prevention and care; harm-reduction policy; treatment models; and consumption of alcohol in different contexts and populations: vulnerable population or street people, indigenous and youth or adolescents.
